Day 1
Depart USA on South African Airways to Johannesburg, South Africa 

 

Day 2

Johannesburg/Sandton City

We will check into the five-star Davinci Hotel,
which is situated next to the Nelson Mandela Square.
Spend the rest of the day shopping. Dinner tonight will
be at Montego Bay. (D)

 

Day 3

Johannesburg/Lesedi Cultural Village

You will take a short scenic drive to the Lesedi Cultural
Village where you will experience various cultural
performances and lunch. Lesedi is a multi-cultural
village set amongst the pristine Bushveld and Rock
Hills. (B,L)

 

Day 4

Soweto

After a leisurely breakfast, you will drive through Joburg en route to the Apartheid Museum in Soweto where you will be shocked and horrified by the depth of racial segregation that took place just before the turn-of-the-century in pre-democratic South Africa. Re-live the sad tale of white (minority) supremacy and black (majority) oppression uniquely captured within the walls of this museum. This informative
experience will leave the visitor in awe of the transformation of a truly diverse nation. After visiting Nelson Mandela’s house, Winnie Mandela’s house, and the Hector Pieterson Memorial, we will enjoy lunch at Sakhumzi. (B,L)

 

Day 5

Johannesburg/Shepherd’s Tree

After breakfast, we will take a scenic two-hour drive to Pilanesberg where you will check into the 5 star SHEPHERD’S TREE GAME LODGE. Arrive in time for “high tea” followed by a late afternoon game drive.  Enjoy dinner and overnight stay at the lodge. (B,D)

 

Day 6

Shepherd’s Tree/Sun City

At 5:30 am, depart for an early morning game drive. Upon your return enjoy a hearty breakfast.  Spend the rest of the day relaxing by the pool, head to the spa, or take a shuttle to Sun City (own expense). Shoppers can shop, golfers can tee off at one of the Gary Player courses, and gamblers can try their luck at the casino in the Palace of the Lost City.  Return to the Lodge in time for an evening game drive and a farewell dinner. Day 7

Shepherd’s Tree/Cape Town

You will have one last early morning safari, followed by breakfast, then you head to OR Tambo International Airport for your flight to Cape Town. You will check into the 5 Star Table Bay Hotel. You will have the remainder of the day to relax. This evening, dinner will be at the Atlantic Grill (B, D)

Day 8

Cape Town/Winelands

After breakfast, we will visit Table Mountain where you will feel like you’re on top of the world. You will then take a scenic drive to Franschhoek in the Winelands where you
will be the special guests of the Mont Rochelle Wine Estates. You will tour their vineyard and wine taste, followed by a lovely 3-course meal at the exquisite Miko’s
Restaurant. (B,L)

 

Day 9

Robben Island/Langa Township

After breakfast, board the ferry to Robben Island (weather permitting), the former political prison where Nelson Mandela spent 18 of the 27-year imprisonment. After lunch (own expense), depart on a walking tour of the Langa Township, Cape Town’s oldest formal black township where the sheer scale of the informal housing problem
becomes evident. Witness hundreds of squatters whom, with the help of state grants, set about building their own brick homes. Spend some time talking with the locals and visiting a local healer. Tonight dinner will be at your own expense. (B)

 

Day 10

Cape Peninsula Tour

After breakfast, we will set out on a full-day tour of the Cape visiting Chapman’s Peak, Cape Point, the Cape of Good Hope, which is the most southwestern point of the
African continent, followed by a stop at Boulder Bay to see the land-based penguins. Tonight’s farewell dinner will be served at the very elegant Signal Restaurant located in the lovely Cape Grace Hotel. (B,D)

 

Day 11

Farewell to Cape Town

Fly home this evening with fond memories of South Africa. (B)
