GHANA - CAPE COAST CASTLES & FORTS
March 9-16, 2020
$3300pp double occupancy
Take a Kattrax Journey Back In Time
Visit the infamous Forts, Castles and Slave Dungeons of Ghana. History will unfold the story of the slave trade in which the impact is still felt beyond the shores of Africa today. During the days of the slave trade, the door from which slaves exited the holding fort was known as the "Door of No Return". It was known to all who passed through this door that they would never again see their homeland. There is now a movement to extend Door of Return" ceremonies to returning Diaspora where you are recognized as a descendant of an ancestor who passed through this door and are now returning. Perhaps this will be arranged for those with an interest.
Be a part of traditional drumming and dancing in the beautiful Torgorme Village on the lower Volta River. You will participate in a naming ceremony where you will be given a traditional African name.
We will spend 5 nights in Accra at Labadi Beach Hôtel and 2 nights at Coconut Grove Resort in Elmina, not far from the castles.
In addition, we'll go off the beaten path- In Assin Manso we’ll visit the “Last Bath” in the “Slave River” (Donko Nsuo) which was literally the last spot slaves were taken before being auctioned and sent to Cape Coast & Elmina Castles. Still in shackles, inspected for injuries and physical handicaps, bathed, slathered in Shea butter and then sold to the Europeans.
